This isn't a matter of someone looking for reasons, or people being more skeptical. Every bullet shot at someone else was forcing one person to inflict torture on someone else. I mentioned human rights before, Captain Holiday, and that's a pretty clear violation of them. We are human beings, right?
I assume that when you went through what you went through before, it was a voluntary action. You went in knowing that you could die. You probably even went in knowing you might have to hurt someone else. Someone gave you that choice. If not, then we should know what this world is really inclined to do, and why it is that you're fighting so hard for us in the first place.
Paintball to most people didn't mean the same thing. Furthermore, the government fostered opposition between unsettled and registered. This is close to the type of thing that did happen in my world, and that's an uncomfortable precedent to follow.
I believe you when you say you're acting in our interests, but your flippancy isn't exactly reassuring. I don't know that I'm seeking reassurance, but ... [She trails off, slipping into a solemn silence.]
You don't trust me, Ms. Bishop. I'm not wastin' my breath trying to persuade people that already got their minds made up. Whatever your thoughts are about me or the way things are run around here don't mean I can wave a magic wand and change everything -- y'got to understand the government runs the way it runs and I'm just one man.
But I'll pass the message along that the simulation didn't go over good.
There's nothing you can do to persuade me, you're right. But some others have made points that I can't ignore when it comes to you. [That's all she's going to say on the matter. David's understanding of everything in full is something that she values, especially since he's a fresh eye on the situation.]
Maybe suggest that they make some kind of statement regarding it, too.

[ He sighs slowly. He decides not to ask about those points she brings up -- maybe it's better off he doesn't know. Nothing will change, after all. ]
Sorry for the inconvenience, anyway.

Thanks for listening. Have a good day, Captain.
[And with that, she lingers for a moment to see if he says good-bye, and then hangs up.]
