Thomas, was it? I wouldn't recommend it. I no longer have a physical body and Parc is an ordinary human. I've attempted leaving his body before and Parc almost collapsed back into a coma. I think me doing so... did this to him.

[ An uneasiness seeps in. ]

I am afraid if I'm separated from him, I may cease to exist completely.

What things did you have to do?

[ spoken with a note of dread he can't really conceal. that never bodes well. he's familiar with "things that had to be done". they end in a lot of pain. ]

And that's when all this stuff started with him - the memory gaps, the confusion? After you tried to separate you two? [ there's a pause, and thomas's mind is running, trying to find solutions, options, fix the problem, solve the puzzle. he just doesn't know enough. too much up in the air. ]

What was the nature of your power, before? How did this usually work?

There's no benefit to getting into detail, particularly not for you. But I'm afraid to say that someday you will have to do the same. It's our burden as imPorts.

[ If only a nod could be seen. ]

[ Then a pause; he sounds confused for a second: ]

You know my name, but not my powers? Astral projection and possession was my power. I left my body -- never for long -- mostly while consulting for the police. There are a lot of murders that go unsolved, so I wanted to help.

I had limitations, of course. The longer I was out of my body, the higher the risk was trying to return to it. It took quite a bit of energy from me, but that was because I wasn't so much a young man anymore, ha!

[ he tenses at that, voice tight but careful. ]

Not a big fan of accepting only one, bad option. [ but there's a lot loaded into that that he doesn't need to talk about right now. ] How're we supposed to prepare for something if we don't know what's coming? Telling us could help us find another way.

[ steve had told him that - there's always another way. he's still not sure how much he believes that, but he wants to. ]

I know 'Phantom' and 'possession', I was hoping for specifics. With that, though, I'd say you've been out of it a hell of a long time to pass the risk zone. [ so basically, homie's screwed. unless something else comes along. the idea of this man fading out, and of holiday maybe going with him, settles a sorrow in him. he makes a mental note to keep his eye out for possibilities that might help. there's a mild smile at the guy's 'ha!'. he's kind of a funny dude. his mind wanders back to the part before - about how it'd been an accident, how he didn't know how it happened. maybe it was an unconscious panic, or maybe not. ]

How much do you know about Lachesis?

[ He sounds a bit amused, but confusion colours his tone following that last question. ]

It was, I was just explaining why I asked. [ not the important part. ] Sort of. That's the idea, at least. Here, it's the being that's possessing the Porter, as far as wide belief goes, at least. She was in the City that was destroyed, and brought some of the imPorts there over to this world in 2014.

There's been instances all over that keep relating back to her, or myth, or the idea of Fate. You don't know anything about it?

I believe I've picked up bits and pieces of that tale from Parc and his conversations, but I don't know anything about that.

It's possible the camera captured my after-image, my spirit, by accident. It had happened a few times in the past. Sometimes technology has a way of seeing thing that aren't supposed to be there.

Like when people get blurs of weird lights on pictures and think it's ghosts. Huh.

[ he doesn't mean to sound that skeptical about it, but it's naturally the way he regards it. heropa has changed a lot of things for him, some slower than others. there's a silence that settles, thomas chewing at the inside of a lip, the busy functioning of his mind coming through in the connection. ]

I want to help you guys. If there's a way, a safe way, I'll try to find it.

I'm wondering, though, if maybe you can help us. The Hornets, Vanir before, I guess, have become a terrorist group now. They've been harrassing imPorts and natives, causing massive explosion - the Nonah bullet train, and I think three building fires. Is there anything you can tell us about them? What they want, who leads them, how we can find them? So far, what we've found, only led us to a set-up.

[ He laughs at his own expense. Sorry Thomas, it's been so long since he's been able to converse with anyone and you're a charmer. ]

I had heard rumors about the Hornets before I passed. There was no evidence to prove they existed, so I had written them off as an urban legend the public invented. Your comment implies they do exist. Is this true?

[ Quisma does manage to sound concerned about that fact. ]

The Vanir, while I had no leads, were always terrorists. Not so radical as these so-called Hornets if they are really responsible for what you are describing; they were always careful not to sign their work.

[ they're hurting for more information, so he'll take what opportunities he can. ]

Yeah, they've shown up a few times, claimed the name 'Hornets' and everything. We went to try to find a base in Brycha, but they were expecting us, and left us a riddle instead. It solved out to three locations, but they'll see us coming at all of those.

[ walking straight into a trap, and with power nullifiers, that's not going to be a good time. they got lucky at brycha. ]

You knew Miguel Rodriquez, right? He's one. They picked him up after a raid the Hornets did on imPorts in Maine.

Rodriguez?

[ A soft hum as he mulls over it. ]

Rodriguez... Rodriguez... a reporter, yes? He's one of those Hornets now you say?

Right. In his trial, he was talking about his articles getting pulled - stuff on Holiday's coma, the original imPorts going home, and the 2008 Death Island incident.

[ he pauses here, then backtracks. ]

Which you wouldn't know about. Did you hear about that through Holiday? Seven imPorts died trying to fight someone with a 'Death Ray'. Caused a huge argument after, and by 2010, all imPorts were getting sent home.

I don't know him personally. I believe we met once.

[ Sal is quiet for a while. Maybe too quiet.

I don't know all the details. What I do know is... sparse. Things I've overheard during Parc's conversations.

[ he doesn't have his notes directly in front of him, but he doesn't need them, just a moment to sort through his memory, picture the notes page in his head and read straight from it. ]

All labeled missing. Some we've followed up on. Lawson, we know, is around, but his family isn't talking about it. Not sure, beyond that. [ Something Kate had felt a particular level of guilt over, and Thomas's voice is a bit more solemn in regards to it. ] Some of the Hornets mentioned Lawson in particular.

Ah, I remember the cemetery now. Some of those graves... yes. I'm sorry, sometimes my memory is not as it should be.

... Joshua. [ It comes out pained. ] He hasn't been located?

[ There's another pause before he gathers himself. ]

I recognize some of these names. Soñè, Strauss, and Ki-duk are imPorts. Is it not possible they were sent home in 2010? It might account for their disappearances, though the others...

This is troubling indeed, Thomas. I was not close with them, but I knew of their work. Wayne, North, Wang... all good people. Medina as well. And from work experience, people who are missing usually have a good reason to remain as such, or...

... something may be terribly wrong.

The Eagle? Not that I've heard of. Someone else might know.

[ he makes a mental note to ask Kate about the name later. ]

Possible. They were all on a list Ananke gave to Annie Leonhart, an imPort. [ annie and kate had been more focused on that search than he had. there was something about north at one point, but thomas doesn't remember it coming up to much. another thing to ask kate. ]

What would they need to hide from?

After the death ray incident, native heroes accused the military of setting up the situation, sending the imPorts in as some kind of plot, then more accusations were sent back to the native heroes accussing them of sending out imPorts to investigate it, seeing as Continuum would bring them back if things went screwy. From what I heard, native heroes started going into retirement, and some of the public took it as an admission of guilt. Might have something to do with that?

If you hear anything, will you please tell me? I am not sure how much longer my form will hold, or if I'll be able to see you again so soon. I can feel-- [ His voice fades suddenly, the rest of his sentence impossible to parse. ]

[ halfway through, quisma's dramatically fading and cutting out, and thomas has the urge to physically reach out to try to grab him back, as if it would actually help. just as he's talking about his form being unable to hold. an urgency fills him, and he rushes out the last of what he can say, hoping it actually gets through. ]

We'll figure it out - I'll find you again, I promise, just hold on! Keep Holiday holding on.
