CAPTAIN ANANKE ⥛ contact

❝ Captain Ananke, at your service. I am unfortunaly unavailable now, so please leave your name and message at the tone and I will be in contact with you as soon as I can. Thank you. ❞

[ As of Ananke's promotion, she will now only be accessible by phone between 8 AM - 2 PM Monday - Thursday, as she has additional responsibilities and is specifically discouraged from speaking too familiarly with imPorts. ]

Good morning, Captain. This is Alistair Krei.

I'm calling in regard to my current employment. While I appreciate the effort that was made to place me somewhere suitable, I’ve worked with the government in the past, and I hope to have the opportunity to do so here as well.

Call me back when you’re able.

[Click.]

return call

[A quick glance at the caller ID before he responds.]

Captain Ananke, hello.
kreiastophe: (This is 'easy steal' size)

Not at all. I'm glad to hear from you.

[A beat.]

So, job prospects. I can tell you what my prior experience was, if you'd like me to start with that? I think that, in particular, would be of interest, even if you don't have any positions available right now.
kreiastophe: (Gather before me children)

[A short laugh.]

Forgive me, I'm a little more used to being on the other side of this conversation.

I was a CEO, and a pioneer of technology. I don't expect there'll be any openings for the former, but something I pioneered quite recently was instantaneous transport through use of wormholes. Portals. I realize the imPort situation isn't ideal for anyone, so I'd like to help with that as much as I'm able, and I don't necessarily need to be paid to do so.

[Okay, he probably shouldn't toot his own horn too much considering he's trying to build a portal in private.]

With a team of scientists, yes. It was a government funded project that cost several billions of dollars. We did experience safety issues - and a portal was utilized as a weapon, at one point - but it did work, and it reached beyond our own dimension. If my knowledge would be of any use, then I would be happy to provide it. If not, portals are far from the only technology I'm familiar with.

Ah... my condolences. [A few beats of silence.] I wanted to be upfront about my history with portal technology, in case it could ever be of use.

And I appreciate that.

I had been wondering about those other porters, how they came to be. That your team managed to replicate its porting technology is an impressive and promising development. I'm not certain of the history here, but in my world, in 1850, Joseph W. Swan conceived of a light bulb. In 1879, Thomas Edison produced the final product. Many years, and with the contribution of many minds.

[He clears his throat.]

That aside, thank you.

In the case they're – understandably – hesitant to accept input from a new face, I would be open to applying my skills elsewhere.
kreiastophe: (Worth my time)

Oh? I'd like to hear the full story, some time. It would answer a few questions I have. And a few I don't, I imagine.

And I would, yes.
kreiastophe: (please repeat that without vowels)

That's not a problem. If it leads somewhere, that would be ideal. But if it doesn't, I brought up my history with portals more out of a... sense of duty, I suppose, rather than the expectation I would be hired.

Thank you, Captain Ananke. You've been very helpful.
